The job itself pays decently for the education required. The pension I hear is ok, if i ever make it that far. Aside from that, it's a horrible place to work. Managers are not chosen based on qualifications, therefore they often lack the skills necessary to operate efficiently. Most managers are treated like crap from other higher up managers. That leads the lower managers treating the unionized employees like crap. Most companies would treat their employees as assets, the opposite is true at CN. Unionized employees are simply used as excuses for every single thing that goes wrong at CN. Management sets impossible standards to attain, then blames the working man for the failure to reach the target. The only thing valuable to CN is their share price, everything else is expendable. What's with all the 5-star ratings on this site for CN? Anyone who actually works here knows what a shithole it is. Must be HR posting all these two-line 5-star generic paragraphs, or there was a mass management e-mail that went out that stated everyone had to come to this site and post a 5-star rating, hence all the half-assed efforts from the 5-star paragraphs.
I whole heartedly agree with this review. I have been working for this company for a number of years. Unionized employees are treated very poorly and often taken advantage of. It seems this company hires you just to fire you. I've seen people hired off the street to be my boss and try to tell me how to do my job properly, meanwhile they have no idea of what they are talking about. These people only care about themselves and will do anything to get on top even if it means screwing over hard working employees with families. But as the person who wrote this review said the money is there for people that want it. But you have to take a lot of grief for your paycheck.
I agrwits 110%. Running trades
As a current employee I also must whole heartly agree with the above comments, I am afraid of the direction and future of this company and I am currently searching for other employment.
Top of the line employer in all respects - only the terminated complain here.
