I was just interviewed to be a beltpack switchman in Vancouver!

They promised me 100K a year, weekends off, and I didn't have to work nights if I didn't want to.

I think I won the lottery!

Of course you can, just leave a message with your supervisor when you'll be back to work.

Rater196 get your head out of your you know what and ask the transportation people (unionized ones) if it's really what your're saying or been told.

Coometor 2 You have to be one to say such commentary as all the one I had to deal with have gone to the dark side.

I woiuld never recommend anyone to hire at CN as long as this company keeps on treating its employees like dirt. Firing people for trivial reason as a form of intimidation.

The other 50 guys that quit were told the same thing...but being that a Manager rated themselves they already know that

Is CN not a good place to work?

I read all over here that it is a great place.

Does anyone here actually work for CN ?

Nobody makes 100k as a switchman. Lunch is 20 minutes - not a minute more. There are no coffee breaks allowed. Stop telling lies and trying to bump up CN's rating. Only a moron would believe that an employer deserves 5 stars in every category.

If CN is so bad, why are 99% of the reviews good?

The only people who complain here are the lazy union whiners that feel they are entitled to everything.

I heard that the railway workers used to "take the quick" which means they would work for 2-4 hours and get paid for 8 hours.

Can you believe that?

These are tough economic times and I don't mind working 8 hours for 8 hours pay.

Yes I work for CN in Vancouver and I like my job.

Good money, good people and a good environment.

Don't be discouraged by the few negative comments here.

At CN the money is good,($100,000? not that good). As reported by the running trades union, CN was only able to hold on to 7% of all its new hires. I have worked at CN for over 26 years and have never made $100,000 in transportation. Good luck but you have not won the lottery. You will earn every penny of your paycheck.

I also work for CN and I also like my job. I don't like being teated like something less than human. I don't like being told that I don't know how to do my job by a guy who was delivering pizzas last week. In the past 10 years or so most managers have been hired off the street (in transportaion). The reason for this is the workers know that managers are treated like crap and they don't want to be "promoted" into that environment. If you can get a job anywhere else, do so.

To the comment 11 guy:

We are not "Lazy Union Whiners". We are railroaders, proud of the job we do. A job we take very seriously, and one that you obviously know nothing about.

I have heard the disdain in the tone and choice of words from the public and from CN managers when they speak about us. Even repeated by office workers at CN who have no contact with us. They are told we are bad so they just believe it. For the most part, my coworkers are honest, hardworking, family men and women, working in a dangerous job, in all kinds of weather, day in and day out.

And after more than a quarter century in transportation at CN, that is the first time I have heard the expression, "take the quick". Early quit? Cut out?? Those days are long gone....

A beltpack operator does not make 100k. It's a good living but not that good.

Just hire on everyone and you will see what it's about. Good paying job however if you are a unionized employee expect to be treated with little respect. And if you go into management leave your morals at the door if you have any . But like I said good money but you earn it.

Sorry Rater196 - I've worked there over 13 years. Management always smile and hug you before they give it to you. Welcome aboard! You'll know what this is all about over time. Money is good, environment for employees is terrible. There are better, respectful employers who pay more. Many of the new hires quite, to find a job where they are treated like humans!

Terrible to even talk like this, CN does compensate you well but unfortunately not that good. If they promise you the sun moon and stars now you should take it because we all know that if it sounds too good to be true it usually is. I have been employed here for eight years now and I will honestly tell you be careful hiring on with CN you are treading on thin ice and am afraid you will get dissappointed very quickly.

I love the PR company posting on this site.

Not even close to the truth.

Ask anyone who works here, they will say what a horrible place it is.

If you think it is only bitter employees who hate the company,

ask those who get fired for missing a call or two.

Too bad the same troll has nothing better to do than spam the site with fake negative comments. Those of us actually working here continue to make the big bucks while the bitter troll sits at home with no income!!
