• I just left my job at Target in St. Albert AB. I was hired as a Team Lead but injured myself at work. As a result my team lead training was cancelled and I was demoted to part time stock person. In addition at the time of my injury, first aid or medical assistance was not offered. Instead I was immediately taken to the office to file an incident report and had to drive myself to the hospital with a back injury. Target is a very cut throat revengeful company and I would not recommend that any self respecting Canadian Work or Shop there.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• not a good employer no pay increase no good management skills no advancement at target no hrs they keep cutting hours no target email i was technically team lead when my manager isnt working worked for couple of hrs for free by writitng a product list of product that my store is needed i found out that they wont acctually send most of it and sending it to head office personal email didnt work out i would never recommand applying for a job.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• No fulltime employment they tell you fulltime and make you part time after three months work for another large retailer and joined Target part time overnight with the intention of doing full time. This is company that works their employees like slaves. The supervisors are like slave masters and continually harass the employees. The employees are warned not to even use the washrooms during work and at one point the washrooms were even locked except during breaks. Target has mostly hired new immigrants who have no choice but to put up with these conditions.
  We heard that many who joined from other retailers were fired after a short while since they were considered too slow. The benefits are not as good as other retailers and there are no bonuses or profit sharing.
  Target does not also give employment to seniors or persons with disabilities. Please do your research if you already have a job and plan to quit your job and join Target.

• I was part of the Canadian expansion leadership team, and had high hopes for culture. We were treated to many inspiring words and promises... Which none came true. In fact the interview process was the only time they were kind and considerate, very much like a cult with malicious intent. Without sharing personal details I can tell you that if you are considering management ask yourself how much you enjoy seeing your friends, family as well as how much you value a positive work environment because you will find it non existent. I had been a successful manager prior to joining, and successful since I have left. And with decades of management under my belt can honestly say this was the worst job I have ever had in my entire career, primarily because of the lack of humanity, agreeing with what they asked of me nearly took my soul along with it. These other comments are true, our staff were more or less convinced to leave ft jobs then given 8 hours a week. If you have a recruiter from target knocking on your door as I did mine, run don't walk away from the offer.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• I worked for Danforth overnight for six months one Teem Leader with third world supervisory experience was terrible especially on the senior citizens. The employee turnover on the flow team was over 60% none of the employees over 50 years survived the onslaught. The backroom TL was a nice guy with little or no turnover everyone wanted to work for him. The hours were cut drastically even to one shift per week on the whims and fancies of the Team Leader. This harassment was probably coming from the Store Manager but many of the Executive Team Leaders too left within a short period. The company needs to assess the leadership skills of the Store Managers and their ability to reduce employee turnover. The employee evaluation was not free nor fair with the Team Leaders looking over your back during computerized evaluations.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Poorly managed company. The team leaders and higher ups never seem to be doing anything. Always in the back. Gurantee you hours upon hiring but then cut them down to nothing once you start. Starbucks is in poor health standards and no one outside the people who directly work at the starbucks understands. The manager that overseas it never checks. • I have been working at target aroura for almost 2 years. This management is nasty. Human rights are violated and tl are asked to come into work on days off and are asked not to push in. Because they don't want to pay over time. Nice. You have etl that yell and scream at leaders and teams. I would not be surprised if a union goes in. This management needs to get fired. As for there open do policy please there isn't any. We look on our toes and every day I. Huddles we have our jobs threaten this is what target is. • This is a horrible company to work for. Horribly understaffed, management is not supportive of it's team members and their expectations of what can be done in limited hours is unbelievable. As others have said I was hired as a full time employee and cut down to about 20 hours a week about a month after the store opened. I would never recommend this company to anyone looking for work. hard work will get you nowhere and no matter how many customer complaints they have recieved about staffing, equipment or certain employees I have yet to see any attempt to change anything (I have been there 10 months).   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Head office is a disaster. The ppl who came from the U.S. are downright nasty. Many ppl are looking for other jobs but it is a soft job market. The mgrs, are not leaders as they demand to be called, will smile at you while stabbing you in the back. One thing Target does well is the portrayal of their image. Make no mistake that the culture and values they espouse unfortunately do not exist. If you have a job stay put, better the devil you know than the devil you don't. • If you started from day one you will be very sad. Started great. Has fallen apart because of no true leadership. Expectations are undeliverable. • I have experienced a pyramid system of work delegation and recognition.
  At the top are district and store mgmt with very little insight into business strategy beyond that of numbers and fulfillment goals.
  In my opinion senior mgmt and dept mgmt are hired according to area of store and dept - however far too often I have experienced being responsible for areas outside of my training. Training being relatively lacking for my job category.
  Recognition is not genuine, nor specific.
  - workload is barely manageable without having to call in favors from others or allowing other areas in your work center slip
  -at my store 3 dept mgmt staff went on stress leave
  - I have also experienced sabotage, bullying, and blatant disregard for my own needs.
  I have observed Gender-based favoritism and promotion.
  Yelling matches by senior staff have been observed on the sales floor, with guests and staff in view and earshot.
  I have been forced to take pictures of every project I execute in progress and when i finish it to prove it's being tampered with to hinder my success by others. I have experienced Important documents, vacation book offs and schedules actively changed or go missing. :(
  The things about the company ( at least at my current location) that gave me inspiration, empowerment and drive and what I signed on for to foster in others - is no longer being represented.

• Worst company I have ever worked for. HQ is an unmitigated disaster. Tony Fisher (President) was fired but we was truly the scapegoat for Target's incompetence. Clearly Target lacks perspective on the Canadian market. They fire one American and replace him with another American at the top. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
  
  Employees received low merit increases and a week later a bunch of managers and above were (wrongfully) promoted, clear where the merit increase went.
  
  Just like the stores - Target promises you the world and fails to deliver. Benefits suck - when I asked about benefits before signing my offer they were purposely vague on the benefits because they knew how BAD they were. They don't compare to the rest of the Canadian job market. Cafeteria and Bullseye shop are both overpriced, again, just like the stores.
  
  HR and mgmt tell you there's tons of career development and opportunity for growth but the truth is there is a lack of career progression. When you speak up, nothing gets done. It only makes things worse.
  
  The office building is nice however it is open concept which results in a lot of noise. If you want quiet - go work elsewhere.
  
  I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy. Avoid at all costs...do not even consider if you are unemployed because you will regret it.
