I worked for Pearson for over three years on contract. Even though my position was a permanent one, I was never offered full time status (despite success in the position, and asking for full time status). I worked for three years without paid holidays, benefits, or a raise. This is extremely common across departments, as they try to keep costs down as much as possible. Management was extremely hands-off and offered little support, so there were few opportunities to learn beyond basic training. Much of what I did I learned on my own or through my co-workers. The Don Mills office is ok, but very "business traditional". My co-workers were mostly interesting and supportive, though there is a tendency to hire "toxic" personalities, especially in sales and management. Salaries are low, as per regular publishing industry standards, but there are opportunities for bonuses in sales (if you're willing to work 14 hours a day and weekends to ensure success, and even then, it's not guaranteed). There is generally a revolving door of employees. HR tows the company line. I will not go back.
