Salary is under the market (except for managers). Some benefits are great (pension plan, sick days). Insurance suck. I have never seen a company where HR runs the show. A manager may want to hire a specific employee and HR can refuse. The structure is extremely rigid.

I lived thru the same thing with HR department, all mean and obnoxious, so when I had interview I had the impression of being slapped thru my face ... so eventually I declined the job, if HR was like that from the start I cannot imagine whilst asking a pay raise!!!
