• My time spent at La Vie en Rose was a strange transition. What started off as a positive work environment quickly became negative.
  
  The pay was low and the sales targets were hard to get because of the location. Always felt as if their were too many people on the floor.
  
  Was little to no recognition and clear favorites. Also had caught managers openly bad mouthing myself and other employees, instead of speaking to us directly.

• You are losing out when you are working for this company. When you are first hired, they give the illusion that they are supportive for employee's growth and well being.
  
  They first give you plenty of hours and are willing to guide you through for you to be more knowledgeable but it is clear from the start that you are only a number to the company and they highly devalue you. They only care about the numbers that you bring in (although we are not commissioned). After few weeks, expect your hours to fluctuate dramatically. I have had two weeks where they gave me no hours at all. If you want to work at this job, you need a second job for sure.
  
  You are not cash trained for at least a month and you can not rely that the girl that is on cash would actually take down your name for the sales when the customers said your name. There were strong sense of senority where people with less senority could not perform certain tasks that are needed for the job.
  
  When you are helping the customers, many times you are unable to as the size or make that they are looking for are not available in the back and you are constantly feeling embarrassed and bad about not having what they wanted and losing their sales. If the company wants us to sell, they should at least have consistent stock.
  
  The management is what makes the job unbearable. They mictomanage you all the time, talk amongst themselves about personal matters when customers are in front of them, have no reservations about embarrassing you in front of the customers, and cut/change hours last minute for their own convenience. The most frustrating part is when they would not take responsibilities for themselves. For example, when there are piles of clothes to be put away, they tell you to do it no matter how busy you are when they do not have any other responsibilities to attend to. The management adjust hours to be less than what you actually worked and gives you a conspicuous attitude when you are only going about your day. This another example of how they think senority gives them the right to belittle other employees. They are hypocrites who promote team work when every one has to be put for themselves to meet their numbers.
  
  They try to undermine Victoria's Secret and La Senza, their competitors, when I think that La vie en rose as a company is the one who needs to assess their values. When I first started out, I ignored these negative reviews thinking that only people that had negative experiences left reviews but please, do not work for this company because the reviews that I have read were so spot on. This company is the definition of disease that exists in capitalism. All the greed, curroption of power, failing to see workers as more than a number.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• I do not recommend this employer. The store manager was nice, but the rest of management awful, and made coming to work really stressful. Rules were created on the spot, depending how the assistant manager and the key holder felt. • This is a job where newcomers get bullied by the experienced ones. I was not allowed to touch the cash register, because I was not trained, so I was to be "on the floor" so I can push sales to the maximum.
  
  The quota for each hour of work, regardless of traffic was $100. After not reaching my quota for weeks, I found that strange, so I started mentally calculating the amount for every sale I should have been getting with customers I helped. It turns out that the other girls who were allowed to be on cash and floor was stealing sales to put into their own quotas. Even the assistant manager does this, as she has a quota to reach as well.
  
  My typical shift is on Wednesdays from 4 to 9:30 pm, and I frequently get calls around 3:30 from my manager telling me to come in an hour later, because it wasn't busy. Obviously, I have already left home, and I have to wander around the mall for an extra hour. At first I said okay, but later I would answer my cell while strolling into the shop so they couldn't delay my shift.
  
  The employee discount is quite generous, so I was excited to shop there one afternoon when I wasn't working. I got a rude telling off from my manager for shopping there when it was busy. Apparently, I am only supposed to shop there early in the morning or late at night, when there are less customers. It's not as if I were bothering other customers while I shopped; in fact, the manager would tell my co-workers "don't help her, she already works here, and you don't get the sale added to your quota". She purposely does this to alienate and guilt employees for using their discount.
  
  This was my first job ever, and I was grateful just for getting hired. If I had known better, I would have quit by the end of the first month, instead of the 10 I was there for.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• When I was first hired, I received absolutely no training at all and was expected to "watch and learn". When I do something wrong, I get told off by the manager even though the manager never teaches me the correct way until after I make a mistake. The other reviews are dead on when they say that as an employee of this company, you are only a number. Even though we do not work on commission, we are given daily quotas that we are told to reach. The quotas are extremely unfair as a person working a 5 hour shift has the same quota as someone working an 8 hour shift. If you do not make over $300 a day, you are scolded and compared to the other employees who have done better than you. This is extremely stressful and you feel badly about your numbers even though in the long run, they don't even matter. You get no compensation for reaching your number and the opportunity for being promoted is extremely low. And you never get rewarded for the hard work that you do put in. No matter how much cleaning, hanging, putting away, or organizing you do, it is equal to doing nothing if you don't make your numbers.
  
  Granted, the atmosphere is mainly positive. Most of the girls are friendly towards you and will assist you if you need it. You will make many friends so long as you are willing to engage yourself in conversations and be nice to everyone. There have been some stealing of sales but most girls make selling fair. While the discounts and perks are nice to have, I do not recommend working for this company unless you are extremely agressive and competitive when working towards set quotas and assisting customers. • I've worked at la vie en rose for a little over a year now and i'm starting to think id rather not have a job at all, since the first day my manger has shown little or no respect to me or any of my co workers, and now we have a new manger who is even worse, she makes unrealistic demands while she does nothing to help, has come out and said she only likes the girls that she hired and will only give them hours. our head office is no better than her they don't care about anything but making sales, so many of the girls don't do any of the other necessary tasks (cleaning, organizing stock, restocking the selves, etc.) because they get threaten to lose there job if there not bringing in unrealistic numbers. what each girl is expected to make is very unfair someone who is working a 8 hour shift will have the same sales target as someone working a 4 hour shift. overall it's a very stressful and unpleasant job, that doesn't have to be if they were to just get better management.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• I just recently quit after being employed with La Vie En Rose for about a month. It started out alright and they were willing to train because a lot of the employees that they hired including myself were new to retail. To be completely honest, the only plus for this company is the discount, but truthfully that's not even worth it. I felt somewhat discriminated by the management while working there. I was one of the youngest employees. I guess my age is what provoked them to forget about me. Opening day of the store, they forgot to call me to tell me that they were opening early so I showed up in the outfit that was said to be okay for the three set up days, only to be told it was unacceptable. They asked me to go home and change and if I could work until closing instead of my 4 hour shift which was okay with me, but I had no way to get home because busses don't take debit cards. I then spent $50 on a "dressy" outfit so I could work that day. I worked a 7.25 hour shift, however they forgot about me again for my break. According to labour relations, an employee must receive a 30 minute unpaid meal break after working 5 consecutive hours. However, on my shift, I received my break after working 6 hours which felt completely pointless. As well, before I was hired I wrote days I wasn't available for because of prior commitments and when I reminded my manager she was very hesitant to give them off to me and told me I wasn't allowed to take off any days in August. They also kept giving me two 4 hour shifts a week, one was a call-in shift. The time I called in the assistant manager was quite rude and said that they yet again forgot about me. The lack of hours and flexibility provoked me to quit. I asked my manager to give the rest of my shifts to my friend who was asking for more shifts (whom is the same age as me as well) and the manager wasn't too thrilled. 5 minutes later I received a text from my friend saying she just got laid off due to "her lack of experience and performance during opening week" and there was no further position available for her. Quite frankly, this company is by far one of the worst I have ever been employed with and I would not recommend it to anyone.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• I love working here. Everyone gets along, unlike some places where it can be very clicky. The manager will listen to you and do her best with hours and will give you an explanation if she is unable to give you many hours in one week. She is strict without being crazy. The only downfall about La Vie is there is little to no pay raises. I love the customers and the atmosphere. I was trained very well and never had to worry about someone stealing my sale if I asked for their help. I would recommended working here to everyone :)   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• I, today, just got fired from La Vie en Rose (....). La vie en rose is an awful place to work. (...). I am 9 days away from the end of my 3 months probation, I averaged about 150.00$ an hour in sales (my sales goals were $68.00/hr) and the reasoning I got fired was that they were too overstaffed on their full time staff so they had to let me go. I came into work today and went in the backroom and saw that the schedule was sitting on the table for next week and my name was not on it.. (...). • I will not recommend La Vie En Rose as an employer. Too much micro-managing from the RSM in my district and too many unrealistic demands and time constraints. I gave up a great deal of family/personal time to have a pay cheque. I did everything I was required as manager only to be let go due to "no longer being La vie En Rose material", then I find out after I was hired that the last manager quit as did another manager and then a visualizer.....all working for/with the same RSM (and I was told by all of them the RSM was the key factor they decided to leave) and I think that perhaps a look ought to be taken to the RSM'S managing style, either the wrong people are being hired to run the stores or the RSM is the common denominator.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• The La Vie en Rose I work at is horrible. All they care about is sales, sales, sales. I have never gotten a raise. There are so many staff issues that are not dealt with. Staff are always fighting with each other, on the sales floor. We have been promised commission so many times and have never been given it, yet they still push us to make sales. • The management is terrible! I worked at the location in downtown calgary which is surrounded by Business people. It was impossible to sell $100 an hour. • Let me tell you that most of these reviews here are correct ! I was treated like crap and was being taken advantage of, and mistreated. Favorites were being picked and it was a horrible place to work for nobody respects you (I worked there for a year) and would never go back there again. Rather be jobless. The management does NOT care about you, and what you have to say (although they say they do) Its very corporate. • I have worked at La Vie en Rose for about a year now, I received one pay raise when I was promoted to key holder. It is a fun company to work for depending on which store you work at. The DM and Store managers do not care how you feel, at my store personally my manager picks favourites and hires her friends, this caused a lot of conflict in our store that the manager was well aware of and did absolutely nothing about, apparently she even told our district manager who also did nothing.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• I found the job personally to be fun, the customers were amazing. The communication skills between managers, district managers are more a Hierarchy than a team effort. There is little or NO training involved.Work hours are either limited or you are overwhelmed. The pay is minimul and raises are near non. When you get demoted from one position to another they cut your wage.They say that if you have an issue bring it to the attention of Managers or DM and when you do they dislike you vocalizing your issues so they slowly weed you out or terminate your position. They can't handle criticism or change. Personally the guide book should be read by the management and Head office to familiarize them with what they expect of their employees. They most certainly do not work with their employees, rather dictate their needs and wants. For this company it is all about making your quota's. I would not recommend anyone I know to work for this company. When I first went to work for La Vie En Rose at the location I was at. • Be aware: La Vie en Rose does not give regular wage increases. Long-time veterans with La Vie en Rose had never received a single raise while I was with the company. They also utilize a punch card system that rounds your punches to the nearest 15 minutes.
  
  I worked at La Vie en Rose for about a year as part-time. Initially, my position was fun and engaging, with a variety of duties and activities to keep me interested in the company, and supportive management that recognized achievements, including customer satisfaction (not just overall sales). With a change of management, I felt completely devalued. My hours decreased, despite my performance and reliability remaining consistent. Customer satisfaction was overlooked for sales numbers, and duties I had been performing just months before were deemed too complicated for my position to handle. In addition, management had a tendency to adopt a 'do as I say, not as I do,' policy - without clocking out for a break, they would disappear for any length of time; closing duties would be overlooked based on the employees opening the next day; long lunch breaks would be adjusted within the punch card system; etcetera. It was very discouraging.
  
  I don't know if this was simply a case of poor management, or a reflection on the company itself (the district manager was sometimes directly involved in the actions taken by the management). Either way, it was very unfortunate.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• The only reason why I left La Vie, was because I wasn't getting any hours and I needed to start working full time. The only bad thing I have to say about La vie is they don't have any hours to give out. My manager was AMAZING, best manager I've ever had she was so caring honest and gave everyone a chance and trusted everyone. I loved working here! The break room was nice, it was really quiet and slow it sucked for when I was folding panties for 6 hours but the girls I worked with became some of my good friends. • There are two things I couldn't stand about working at LaVie, one being mistreated and devalued by my manager and Dm, two being told conflicting things about policy (being told to abide by the store policy in the manual regarding returns and exchanges, but being instructed to break policy if an obnoxious customer decided that 'final sale' didn't apply to them). The management issue was the biggest problem of course; during 7 months working for LaVie I had two managers, and a period of having no in store management at all....that period happened right as the x-mas rush began. I was p/t staff that took on tons of extra hours and extra responsibilities while the store was without management. My efforts during those chaotic times were rewarded with a jr. assistant manager title, which sounds great but there were problems. Even with the small raise I found out I was being paid less than some part timers, I was expected to handle management responsibility without receiving any management incentives, the hours I worked were sporadic and conflicted with my university schedule ( a schedule the manager was well aware of). On top of that efforts to discuss and resolve the issues were ignored by management. Ignored till I called head office in hopes of finding a reasonable resolution. Upon learning I had contacted head office the Dm reacted like an immature back stabbing high school girl. She denied I ever tried to contact her to resolve any problem and instructed my manager to deny me employee discounts.
