• Great people to work with but they are all drinking the toxic Kool-Aid being spewed by this new CEO. This "return to growth" plan is a pie-in-the-sky plan that just won't happen. These guys still rely on print. Print is dead, and this company will die along with it. The previous CEO almost bankrupted the company and now they have this new saviour?? • Great company! High-tech now with RAPID turnaround in last 2 years and more interesting work. Company sells more online products than print such as Search Engine stuff, great Websites, Mobile ads, Re-Targetting and more. • Much improved in 2014. Facebook (wow!), Google, Yahoo, Foursquare and many others have partnered with YPG since they have all the data on Canadian businesses. Great place to work, good pay and benefits, very supportive management, everything supports sales, good training, and even old-school computer tools are being replaced. • I'm actually going to come to Yellow Media's defense here. Sure this employer has gone downhill in recent years however I attribute that to the decay of their services no longer needed with changing times. I worked for Calgary YPG from 1997-2010 at which time I was laid off, knew it was obviously coming and given 2 months notice with a generous severance package. During my time there this place really honestly had culture, the management knew what was going on with my life to a point if and where and when it affected my work, they actually worked with me in this regard, there was actually a work life balance, good pay, good benefits, vacation - the whole 9 yards. There were always Xmas gift exchanges, potlucks almost every month, halloween decorating contests, etc.... the list goes on and on. Most of the people I work with were good and I really like that I could drive to work and not have to go downtown. The CEO has passed his primetime and needs to get out of there since. I have worked for a couple of companies since being laid off and they don't walk the talk and lack any sense of culture or anything else or management skills and any care or concern for their workforce. YPG did, I haven't been there for 2 years and sounds like things are going more & more downhill but when I was there I had some really good years there.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• A truly sad self inflicted decline in this company. A shame to anyone in corporate management as it could become the most illustrative lesson in how to destroy one of Canada's greatest companies. It probably had one of the most adaptive, creative and professional workforces in Canada who were in sync with their customers. • I believe that this place is one of the better places to work for if you were not in sales.
  
  It's a tough gig for guys that are in sales if they don't have any book of business.

• Employee morale is currently at an all time low with lots of layoffs, no raises or bonuses this year. Most employees are overworked and underappreciated. Middle management is alright most of the time but upper management is clearly out of touch. This company is desperate to save a buck anywhere right now and its the ground level employees who are suffering the brunt of it. • Ok, first thing first, management is encouraged to come to these sites and tell everyone of you what a great company it is. And lets not forget the communications department who's job is to search the net for negative comments and say what a great company it is. Make your own mind, when people say what a wonderful any company is, and there are no negatives, well, beware, management lurks !
  As other previous employees of this company, I'm glad I left them too, it used to be a great place to work, great benefits, excellent pay and most of all respect, and normal stress levels.
  But, Call recording, measuring and criticizing everything you do, and I mean EVERYTHING.The stress levels are astronomical, never seen a place where there are so many people on burn-out, its just amazing. Management? please, give me a brake. The company can't keep their staff. Everyone is leaving, no experienced sales people left, or barely any as they all quit. Average seniority is about 2 years, think that MC Donald's is 7 years, it kind of gives you an idea. Sickening atmosphere, everyone is depressed, all the time. I'm so happy I left after so many years, and yes, me too I hoped that it would get better, but sadly its gotten worst..and its still getting worst. Not a place I'd recommend, even to my worst enemy ! Don't apply, as if they tell you their hiring procedure is very tough, tough to get in. Not true as they're desperate for staff, they're hiring just about anyone. Think of this, the shares have gone from $17 to 17 cents ! and large dept, it kind of gives you an idea where the Titanic is heading. They'll squeeze every last drop out of you and throw you out. Need a job? look somewhere else, no future here and besides, you want a job for a maximum of a year? ask around, there are chances you know someone who worked there, ask them, don't take my word. They say they're in the top 100 employers in Canada? Damn...those RH people are good...and think that those researches are done with RH and NOT with the employees as they'd be so far behind the pack.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• Of all the employers I worked for, YPG is the first company I found that is so focused on its employees. Great benefits plan, good opportunities and atmosphere. Management will vary from department to department, but I was lucky to have a great manager. Good feedback and personal development was encouraged. • The department you work in makes a huge difference in whether you enjoy your job here. Some departments are fantastic, while others are lacking. Like any place of work, who you work with will also affect your happiness within a position. I've thoroughly enjoyed working for YPG and have no plans to leave in the foreseeable future. • Yellow Pages Group markets itself as a top employer, however; the reality is that it is disorganized. The sales processes and systems used add hours of time to the job that is wasted. This could be made on sales calls. They even steal incentive money from there sales employees. The corporate structure is ineffective and most managers certainly do NOT deserve to be where they are. They are there to steal from customers and staff.

• Yellow Pages Group..... YPG..... Whatever you call it is very dishonest in its hiring practices. You will go through a telephone process prior to a meeting with the sales managers. During this time I encourage you to attempt to get a copy of the commission rates. It will not happen.
  
  Also try and get a them to walk you through the paperwork and back end requirements of the job. It is extraordinarily onerous by any ones standards. Expect to spend a minimum of 1 hour to complete your back end if everything goes perfectly. It can account for 70% of your work week at times. Since you are only paid for sales (over what the customer might renew) you can see where this curtails your earning potential.
  
  You will constantly be berated with useless reporting requests from your manager while at the same time be pressured into signing every legal release they can find for you.
  
  Commissions are held until you accumulate 6000.00 then you are only paid on whatever exceeds that amount. You are automatically signed up to a draw no matter if you like it or not. In effect if a rep is not careful he/she will owe their soul to the company store. Not unlike coal miners in a company town of the 1800's
  
  Everything at YPG comes with a thinly veiled threat it starts in training with the false claim that its possible to fail...its not. They need the warm bodies too badly to be that choosy.
  
  The top 100 employer status they are so proud of was not earned by speaking to a single member of the sales department. Without exception they work incredible hours in order to complete the required tasks in order to make a mediocre amount of money.
  
  If you have any other opportunities I would recommend that you explore them. YPG will always be hiring as the retention of their staff in the sales departments are terrible. No matter what they tell you as of the printing of this review,the star sales people will likely not hit the 86K per year they have been promised.
  
  Ask to speak to a rep or do a little search on your own. The number of people that are out there that have worked for YPG are numerous. Generally they are a little embarrassed however they will speak about their experiences in an honest manner to you if requested. Most are just surprised they were so easily misled by a supposedly reputable company.
  
  Get the facts, Get it in writing and make your own decision in the end your the one that has to live with it. In this day and age it gets harder and harder to reclaim the 6 - 12 months lost to a terrible decision.
  
  Basically this job is 30% sales 70 % admin. If your trying to make six figures plus it is near impossible while you are spending all of your time on 10 buck an hour jobs.   read complete rating Hide complete rating

• THe company markets itself as a top employer, however; the reality is that it is dissorganized and in constant management flux. Skill and knowledge retention is a major challenge that creates a lack of continuity and growth. • Very results oriented. A lot of pressure put on employees. They don't invest in talent retention. They tend to oversell the company and working conditions.

• The staff in BC are not appreciated. It is the only area of the company that is not unionized and the company takes advantage of this.
