Canadian Forces

Size of company: Large (More than 500 employees)

Industry: Government and Public Administration

  • As all Govt agencies Public Works and Service Canada will trip over a dollar to save a penny, making all the cuts in the wrong places and putting money in all the wrong areas. The great brain drain of the recruiting freeze of the 90's has come to fruition and there is a vacuum forming at higher ranks which are advancing people far too rapidly as most haven't the skill sets required and haven't been mentored as their Supervisors are overworked and don't have the time. Anyone who claims CF members don't earn their money really need to serve for a couple of years. The large portion of junior supervisors I've encountered are career driven to the point that they climb on the backs of their peers to fulfill their own selfish desires and micromanage their subordinates in an unrelenting fashion that erodes moral and esprit de corps. The pay is decent, and the benefits are good too, but if your a not particularly resilient person, you will get burned out quickly.
