• I notice the negative reviews are from short-term employees and the positive ones from long-term employees. Well, I gave Staples 5 years of my life, and I'm telling you to avoid them. Staples USED to be a great company, but they have fallen hard and fast. I was, no exaggeration, the top-selling extended warranty salesman IN THE COUNTRY for two years. There were managers that were amazing and they were all fired or quit. I was ignored for advancement, openly insulted, and finally accused of not putting in an effort the moment my sales dropped...even though they dropped because I was asked to prioritize training the team over my sales. I got the store to first in the district, and they still treated me unfavorably. I gave it another year, and my stress and anxiety reached a boiling point. One day, I just had to quit for the sake of my own mental health. I returned to the business as a customer recently, and 95% of the staff had been replaced. • I went trough the 3 months "trial" period and got fired immediately after for "not meeting the requirements." Basically if you're an amazing seller, they'll keep you. But you'll have to be comfortable with selling bullshit warranties, "configurations" and push the client to buy as much attachments as possible (mouse, keyboard, usb sticks).
  
  I liked and disliked the job. They were alright with schedules and understood that I'm a busy student. My colleagues were all nice people and the supervisors were competent in what they had to do. But you're always pressured to sell the services they have, because that's where they make money. They don't make money from selling a naked computer therefore you always have to push your clients with repair plans, warranties and configurations. Configurations are a big scam, I've seen colleagues lie about "is windows already on the computer?" by saying that it was on the hard drive but still needed complicated installation while in reality it's just to name the computer and enter a WiFi password.
  
  Basically your job is to be just like that annoying guy at any store that just wants to add numbers on your bill. But you're not even paid by commission, just minimum wage. Sometimes a clients tells you he wants "this computer" and you know he wont pay another 150$ bullshit services that he could do by googling some shit, his wallet is already crying. But when you get in the lock-up to grab the product, a boss fallows you in and asks you "did you tell him about the config? did you tell him about the warranties? did you suggest a monitor, a mouse, a screen cleaner, a keyboard, a keyboard duster and a usb key?" They want you to harass clients. In your training they tell "don't go on a full list of things they can buy, just talk about a few things" then they give you shit for not doing it. For fuck sake, this job is the reason people buy stuff online. Let the clients be and if they have questions answer them honestly.
  
  If you're willing to lie and be an annoying pressured salesman at minimum wage and no commission. Then this the perfect job for you. But keep in mind that if your numbers get low, they won't give a shit about giving you hours and will fire you if you're still in the trial 3 months. • I worked 4 months for this company and everything i remember from it was bad. Let's start with the "Managers":A bunch of uneducated folks with no highschool degrees, a high ego and a very bad attitude towards clients. Only 1 of them actually bothered to do his job right, all the others spent their shifts chit chatting, texting in front of employees and giving them morale lessons about how you must sell a lot of extended warranties or else you were a "bad employee".
  
  
  When i got hired, nobody bothered to show me my work contract, i didn't sign any papers, i was just thrown into the floor and told to follow the manager to "learn the procedures". They don't teach you anything relevant other than safety measures and how to use their overly complicated data system that crashes every 10 minutes, making the clients wait a long time to have a simple question answered. There is a very high turnover rate for a reason: They don't train their employees enough and they expect immediate results from them. I consistently ranked high in the weekly sales statistics, but after the holiday season, things slowed down, and 2 weeks of bad results were enough to get my ass fired for no valuable reason other than "you don't fit in the group very well". I don't know if this was even related to my sales or if one of the managers really disliked me and decided i'd be better off fired (I never had any disputes with anyone there). It seems like no matter how hard you work, overnight your job can turn to a nightmare and managers decide they can just get rid of you for some stupid reason. They don't even have the balls to tell you the real problems and then wonder why they're stuck hiring new people every month or so.
  
  
  This company has a very bad habit of blaming it's bad results on the lower-end employees, who get constantly threatened with the loss of hours if they don't sell enough warranties. They literally encourage you to lie and mislead the client as much as you can just so you get a sale. I guess they blame the lower end workers just to protect themselves, since if management looked into their store managers, they would find that a lot of them are there for their paychecks and don't contribute to this company at all. Many of them are dead weight and you just wonder what the hell they are doing as "managers" when you're juggling between clients and see them relax on the counter with their cellphones on hand.
  
  
  
  
  The work atmosphere is very stressful with so much pressure on your back. The older employees are extremely arrogant and act as if they are untouchable, and the youngsters that get hired constantly get blamed for everything that's related to the store's results. There is also favoritism, with some people getting promoted for the sole reason they are friends with the director, while you see them do sweet fuckall during their shifts and delegating work to you.
  
  
  It's not even a decent job for the students seeking part time hours, because the constant pressure is just not worth the wage you make.

  j'ai perdu mon travail, suite au refus de me faire transferer dans un magasin à 60km de mon domicile. vous n'êtes qu'un pion dans cette compagnie gérée par des actionnaires. • Honest truth... don't even bother with them, they're not worth your time! The company as a whole is laughable. They treat people as if they are expendable. The training is a joke, they 'motivate you' to sell their crap with cheap ploys and reprimand you and hold back what they call rewards if you are unable to for whatever reason. Over work you and under pay you. If you manage to make it to one of their 'higher levels' the expectations go through the roof even though you get no training or mentoring. If you don't comply to what they expect (even though they show no sign of even trying to help you) they bully you into quitting by threatening to fire you. The management program is hilarious (disgusting)considering what they let walk through the door as a manager outright compared to what hoops they make their staff jump through to get there is unreal. They also try and hire as many immigrants as possible because they put up less of a fight about what they (the company) are doing. The turn over rate is high because people are unwilling to put up with it all which makes working there a nightmare as you have to constantly carry someone new, which they make you responsible for. The stress they put you under is disgusting and the person who started the company should be ashamed that his or her company has turned into this. • I was a manager with Staples for 2 years. The atmosphere is great!!! The compensation and advancement opportunities not so much. in order to advance you need to be willing to change stores. • Chez Bureau en Gros, les heures sont toujours en baisse, ils laissent le magasin sous la gestion d'heure minimum (juste assez pour fournir et encore). Le stress est constamment présent, le salaire est pourri (en 2 ans et demi, 0,50 cent d'augmentation). Baisse constante de règlement concernant la hausse salariale (+ longtemps sans augmentation). Trop de travail et trop peu d'employé mais en même temps, ils font avec les heures que le bureau chef pourris leur donne. Le technicien doit constamment sortir pour vendre et assumer ses responsabilités si le travail n'est pas terminé. Bon avantage sociaux mais peu de reconnaissance. Je recommande pour un temps court après trouvez-vous autres choses. Les vendeurs ne sont pas à commission et + de leur tonne de travail, du salaire pourri, du stress fourni, de la non reconnaissance, du manque d'heure. • Je suis moi même directeur actuellement, enfin la compagnie de dit directeur mais tout ce que je fais c'est placer des boite(chaises), placer le stock, faire de la caisse, c'est une catastrophe. Dès que j'aurai la chance de quitter cette compagnie, je le ferai. J'ai eu de très belle années derrière moi mais aujourd'hui, avec les coupures d'heures...c'est impossible d'arriver! • I have worked for sStaples for 7 years now and would recommend it to anyone. I started in a part time sales position and have worked my way to Senior Tech consultant, would be a manager already but deylaed my entry into the MD (managment devolpment) program for personal reasons. I have found my managers especially my GM supportive every step of the way consistent great feedback, i quite like the constrictive feedback from reviews (got highly effective on my last two going for number three). In my store they are always understandable about time off for holidays vaction or family emergency. I hope to work for the company for another 7 years. • worked for this company for two years in various roles. My "manager" never graduated high school or mastered basic spelling, let alone any kind of leadership. staff turnover was the highest of any company I've ever been with. Everybody hated their job. pay is ridiculously low.

• Horrible company to work for they expect you to do so much, you just never stop for one second and you still can't get it all done. They pay is CRAP. They keep asking you to do things that you don't have time for and adding on work.
  The managers are useless morons overpaid idiots on power trips
  They try to make you think it is some kind of an honor to work here, three interviews and three reference checks. LOL
  Oh but then when you get smart and move on they refuse to give a reference (company policy)
  If you want to work like a dog and get treated like CRAP and paid LOWER than Low wages this is a good company for you.

• Au début c'était bien, mais après très peu de temps le gm commence a nous pousser pour vendre plus. De plus, lorsque j'ai donner ma démission un lundi après deux mois sans heures de travail (parce que javais du réduire mes heure ce qui na pas plus au gm) j'ai su qu'ils avaient mis les chose qui etais dans ma case à la poubelle lorsque je suis aller les chercher le jeudi suivant... • Je ne recommanderais pas Bureau en Gros comme travail à personne. Ça va bientôt 3 ans que je travail pour BEG. Aucune possibilité d'avancement à moins de littéralement lêcher les bottes de tes boss.
  
  Département informatique:
  Pression énorme sur les mesurables, vente de ''Plan d'entretien prolongé'', Installations d'ordinateurs, tablettes, vente d'accessoires complémentaires etc... Le plus de garantie tu va vendre, le plus pénard tu pourra être. Horaires de travail horrible, soit on est ''short staff'' à cause des nombreuses coupures d'heures dans les magasin, pris à servir 3-4 clients en même temps. Temps plein ou temps partiel, les soirs tu va finir a 10h la semaine et la fin de semaine dit toi pas que tu va pouvoir prendre ça relax, tu dois être disponible pour travailler la fin de semaine même si tu es temps plein.
  
  Caisses:
  Pression énorme sur la vente de produits diverses, clé usb , carte de crédit BEG, papier, garantie, courriels pour de nombreux concours inutiles.
  
  Centre de copies:
  La job à première vue parrait bien, impression de documents, reliure, rien de plus relax! Malheureusement, non... Soit tu dois communiquer avec de nombreux clients afin de faire des ventes, essayer d'aller chercher de nouvelles entreprises pour leur programme de rabais aux entreprises... Les périodes de ''probations'' durant lesquelles il n'y a aucun suivi de ta formation ou des tâches à effectuer. On te garoche dans le département le plus compliqué le le moins facile à comprendre en te disant de faire ce que tu peux... Souvent de 5 à 6 clients vont être au comptoir pour des commandes, mais jamais personne pour venir t'aider (tsé une vente de 10-20$ il s'en c****)
  
  En général, l'ambiance est bien, si tu as un chandail rouge, good luck pédale pour ton salaire minimum avec attentes maximales. Si tu arrive à ta chemise bleu, et bien là tu pourra prendre ça relax et passer des heures au téléphones à jaser avec du monde d'autres magasins.

• Ive been working at staples business depot for about 3 years now, started there as a co-op student for highschool credits and was immediately hired on. One thing ive always loved about my store is the staff, and while obviously this wont apply to all stores, it also means there are many that have great managers and associates in their team. Funny, laid back goal-oriented guys and girls that are the lifeblood of our store. (for the record ive worked in 3 different stores, im a sales associate/assistant to our easytech technician in my current store)
  
  Yes, management does get shuffled around once in awhile but fresh faces can sometimes be good, and you know that the managers you know arent far away running another store somewhere. For the record, again, ive worked under 8 different managers, the store has 2 or 3 working together generally, only had 1 i didnt like and he was a temp)
  
  Managers know how to run the store, very flexible with hours and worked around my college schedule so i still get shifts. Super supportive and easy to talk to with any ideas or complaints.
  Pay is decent, but better if you move to consulting, and its quite normal in my area for consultants to train to be managers.
  Work is easy and enjoyable because of the people around me, we're all friends and frequently go out for pizza and beers (christmas was awesome one guy was so hammed haha)
  
  In other reviews i see a lot of 'you need to sell warranties or they boot you' and 'warranties are idiot taxes'. I could not disagree more. Staples exists, like any other business, to make money and fill a niche in the crowded marketplace, that should be obvious.
  Attachments (extras on your reciept e.g. Warranties cables inks etc) are what male the company money, but youre never written up for not selling or yelled at. Staples tells you to try and create a complete solution for the customer, thats your job. If someone buys a printer you ask them if they need paper, if they do great if not no manager is gonna ride your ass for not getting it.
  
  On the flip side if you fail hardcore at speaking to your customer and asking questions, and dont even try to get what the customer might GENUINELY NEED, yeah, youre not doing your job. No wonder you dont work here anymore. This doesnt reflect the company, it reflects either poor sales skills or a garbage attitude, both of which suggest to management that this job isnt for you. If you were them youd think the same thing, so why is anyone surprised?
  
  As far as warranties go, i think price-wise theyre on par with anyone elses, and ive seen them save customers tons of money in the past.
  E.g. Customer buys 3 year laptop warranty $149.99
  Customers power adapter and battery stop working, thats at least $120 already, and most of the time the hard drives fail too, so thats what another 50-60 bucks, probably more depending on the drive. And the warranty center reinstalls windows for you too, which at pc repair shops is worth AT LEAST 50 dollars more, but around here usually $100.
  
  The important thing to remember about warranties is that theyre about peace of mind. No, you might not use the warranty, and in all honesty i hope you dont have to. But realistically, you will for at least the battery. And for people who dont know jack about computers, maybes its worth $149 to be able to take it to someone and say 'hey, i paid to have these parts replaced by you at no extra charge' and leave it to us to find parts and install them.
  
  In summary, best/easiest job ive ever had, definitely a keeper, at least until i find something to start a career in after college in a couple years.   read complete rating Hide complete rating
