I worked for Loblaws (Satan) for 4 years. I was also on the Union committee. On my shift, one union member's wife had a misscarrige at 7 months. The union member called the senior supervisor to ask him for some time off. The supervisor obliged him by giving him a weeks holidays. When I caught wind of this, I asked management to re-inburse his holidays, as the death of a child was not a holiday. The supervisor could not perform this action, as he had no authority to "ok" this. I went through chain of command to the head of HR. I asked him to re inburse the union members holidays, as they had done this in a past practice before. The answer I got from the head of HR was; "No birth certificate, no death. Loblaws states that they are a "Family First Company." This is obviously false. Loblaws is in business to make Dollars, not Sence.Loblaws is the worst company I have ever worked for. I would not recommend that anybody work there, as it is stressful to your health.
It is amazing to me how some companies treat their employees. I am now so happy that I was not offered the management position in Cosmetics that I was interviewed for a couple of years ago.After reading all of these comments, I am seriously considering not shopping at any store run by this company. I would rather go to St. Lawrence Market anyway: the food is fresh and one can support local business.
