I've been working with Loblaws for the past four years, first with Save Easy, then the store changed over to a nofrills franchise owned by the same manager of what was Save Easy. Sad to say, this place is an absolute mess. The management is atrocious and could care less about part timers. First of all, I've been working for the company four years straight with nothing but more and more responsibility and workload on my shoulders. What have I gotten for this? Nothing. I make $10.25/hr, that's .25 more than minimum wage AFTER being there for four years! Face it, you join this company and you will NEVER rise in the company. That's the problem, you go nowhere. There are no benefits. The only good thing about the specific place I work with (and that's not to say it's at every store) is that they are flexible with hours. You want time off, you usually get it. Sadly, we are completely under staffed. With only 8 people in the grocery department, 2 in the produce department, 2 in the meat department and about 14 in the front end (cashiers) --- 3 supervisors, 1 grocery manager who's never there. When I learned that a store in a different province which had the same set up as us, but slightly SMALLER had over 20 people in their grocery department, I knew it wasn't our fault the store was in a mess, instead it was management for not wanting to hire! And yes, not many people will work for minimum wage! They will have to learn the hard way, because they go through people as if they were very easily disposable. Terrible company that has so much talent and people who care but are not being looked after properly!
