This company is terrible to work for. The non-food departments are under-staffed and overworked: we often have to do double duty for each other and the grocery department because there is maybe 1 person covering 13 aisles at any given time during operating hours--and they are rarely on the floor. I have been in this Hell Hole for 7 years and have often felt that frequent rule changes and increased workloads on reduced hours more or less amount to physical and psychological abuse of everyone who works at store level. In light of the recent minimum wage increase in BC, many of the senior employees are being given the golden shaft in terms of compensation. Because of the way that the pay scale is structured in the union contract, we now have employees who have been here for 3 years making the same as new hires working their first shift. This is completely unfair to those of us who have endured their torment for varying reasons and is certainly not a good incentive to stay. I am only here out of necessity. If the new president wants to get to know this company, I would recommend some time on “Undercover Boss” in all areas of the store and the distribution centers, as the 4 sections at store level all have different pressures and ways of doing things (and “hour budgets”). Same goes to the pretty-boy Galen Weston…let him get his hands dirty.
