I came to Loblaws because I lost my career recently and needed something to do while I got back on my feet. The warm body hiring policy is a double edge sword, but it lets you pickup some quick work fast, but it also means you will work with a lot of useless people.

The store I work at is okay and the store management is okay. I go there to work and I don't have any qualms about what I do. The head office seems to micromanage and the store managers have to fudge things quite a lot to avoid getting punished. If you work with the store managers to look at the big picture and help them to avoid them getting punished from the micromanaging head office I guarantee you'll get along great. It really is a I''ll scratch your back you scratch my back kinda place.

A lot of the complaints in here are complaining about no family time being available. I don't see that as an issue because as a part time employee you have a lot of free hours on your hands. Also I've had no issues requesting days off when needed.

As for the union the UFCW is a total useless piece of crap and their president Doug O'Halloran is a corrupt and useless turd. Be prepared to have a sizable portion of your pay taken and than promptly donated to the NDP. Its not specifically a superstore thing, but they have organized in a number of low wage places and steal from a lot of low wage workers such as Safeway, Avis et al.

There is one thing that I really hate with a passion. Superstore uses bio metrics to clock in and out. First of all I don't like Loblaws having my fingerprints. The time clock machine is brutal at reading fingerprints and takes up to 5 to 10 minutes some days to even swipe in or out because the machines fail.

As for breaks, its never been an issue. I just go for my 15 minute break when I want and no one has ever bugged me about it.

Last but not least, don't complain about not getting enough hours to any of the management at the store. It will flag you as a trouble maker. There is nothing the store management can do about hours allocation. Don't even go there.
