I am a truck driver, who for the last 32 yrs have had the privilege of working for some of the finest companies in Canada. Companies that were respected not only by their employees but as well as their peers in the industry. I felt at 50 that it was time to "get off the road" and work locally to be closer to the ones I love! I chose Loblaws.....well......that was a mistake. At one time, employees working under, the father of the present CEO, were probably one of the best paid and and best treated of any of the grocers in their respective industry. You could not get a job here without connections or be the very best in your particular field! It is so sad that a company that was so well respected and admired with it's employees and peers has forgotten, "What made it the most successful in this country as well as the largest in Canada!"Under it's present management it has decided that profit would be it's only goal, and dividends to it's shareholders, it's only offer. I believe a private company has to remain profitable and responsible to it's shareholders.......but at what cost? Loblaws has forgotten that it's 100,000+ employees (albeit mostly part-time employees) are also their present and future customers. That treating their front line staff with such disdain will not only affect them in the present, but will guide whether or not they will survive in the near future,The senior officers have asked their staff to take serious cuts to their enumeration package, as much as 30%, with a freeze to their wages, as much as 7yrs! All the while never once leading by example. No! The senior staff continues to enjoy raises as well as increases to their bonus's.( As much as $3.8 million) all the while, Loblaws enjoys year after year of staggering profits!!What has happened to their care for their employees? To the relationship they once fostered, on in which was the envy of their industry? Instead of making 1.1 billion, maybe make 1 billion and reward your front line staff with well deserved and well earned hard work. The people at Loblaws are grossly under paid, and terribly treated!!No I would not recommend this company, and with my $17.50/hr wage I'll be leaving this company, and sadly seeing the demise of one of Canada's oldest and most successful grocers!!
well said!
I coundn't agree more! I'm sooo leaving this company ASAP, it's been almost 7 years! (7 years too many!!!)
Most of the drivers problems stems from Brian Springer the VP of Transport, he has promised the company things that simply cannot be achieved. Loblaws was once a great company to work for, but day by day Loblaws is slowly taking a great comapny down to a "might I say" slave labor approach at just about everything they do. Once i recieved a reply back from Galen Weston Jr. and in so many words he came out say basically that profits come first. Now isn't this nice, such a wonderful company to work for.
Yah sounds just like Sobeys. I am tired of all these big corporately run grocery stores forgetting about their employees. My wife says it the best, "if your miserable to staff, staff are miserable with customers. Staff are miserable with customers, customers stop shopping there. Customers stop shopping there, no more paid effin vacations to Mexico, Dominican, or China" These companies are the reason the economy has plummeted.
Bravo! Very well said.
