When Loblaws will flip to Great Food in March all are told to sign that they will work on Sundays to take the buydown, or they will have to the buyout and leave. We are given no choice. After You have worked many years for company, it would be respectful to allow the current employees to keep Sunday work as an option. What about family and religious observances? When the Sunday work legislation came in, it was supposed to be optional. So much for democracy!
Don't blame the company...............blame UFCW to allow this to happen! All they are concerned about is keeping the union in the "new" Loblaws and if that means everyone has to work Sundays, or everyone to take a pay cut or everyone cut their benefits, then let it be. As long as they get the union dues from all the slaves at Loblaws this will continue!Loblaws is the Walmart of Canada!
Nobody has to work Sundays. I suggest you read LOU #59 in the Collective Agreement. It allows you to opt out of working Sundays or weekends completely if you'd likely, after moving to Great Food from Conventional. You just have to have a *cough* legitimate reason.
