This company constantly talks about being in the top 1oo employers to work for. That's great if you're a CEO or the guy in the comercials, but not if you're at the bottom of the food chain getting part-time at minimum wage. They donate to charities and the food bank, meanwhile a lot of their own employees are in need of these very services because they will not pay their employees enough or give them any opportunity for advancement. When you are a" colleague" at this company, you are not treated as an equal, you are looked down upon. They create no incentives or pride in this company.
How they got to be in the top 100 got me baffled. Maybe there was only 100 companies in the running.(lol) I go into work do what I have to do and leave. Other than a pay check the company owes me nothing. I don't go above or beyond as they put it. What a joke that is. In our store only certain ones are notice. Bottom line I don't kiss any ones butt.
I'm not a Loblaws employee (so, technically, I shouldn't even be posting here), but I'm also curious about those "best employer" awards.A few years ago at Wal-Mart (notorious for employee abuse), they were announcing over the PA system how proud Wal-Mart was "to be recognized as one Canada's 50 best employers."That's crazy, but it seems even crazier that Loblaws should receive a similar award. Based on the reviews here, it seems like a pit of despair. And, amazingly, Loblaws and its Superstore chain are rated WAY LOWER than even Wal-Mart!They must buy and sell those awards. Either that, or the selection process is easy to corrupt.
I am an employee of this pathetic company and I was beside myself when I saw this' best employer award' nonsense.I'm not sure where they're getting this information however I gather it's not from the front line workers. Getting a pay cut of up to $5/hr and increasing the amount of work you need to do does not make this a good employer. That's just common sense!
I'm curious, how did this pay cut come about? I remember reading something about how they screwed over all their longtime staff about a year ago. Did it have anything to do with them rebranding themselves as "Loblaw" from "Loblaw's" ?
yes by rebranding themselves the essentialy became a new store. With the old banner gone we are "re-hired" with a new contract. We were given the choice to grandfather our contract or take a buy down and the new contract. What they did not tell us in the begining was that the old contract would take the same hours of work not allowing us to choose when we are able to work. Now we are FORCED to give at least 2 weekday / evening shifts and we have no choice to give Friday, Saturday and Sunday from opening 7:00am to closing 11:00pm
the award is based on what the judges see. As an employee, i can tell you that the managers on any one store know well in advance when a special visit is to occur and they make the store very presentable beforehand. The store managers make sure that the judges only see what has been prepared for them. This is done during daylight hours and schedules are adjusted for that day to prevent the judges from hearing what really goes on there.
