Was impressed at the level of training before our store opened, but once it opened Nov./2010, it was pitiful. H/R dept. told us what we could expect but reality was quite different. People who were setting up the store who had part time jobs were given lots of hours and the company worked around their schedules but when the store opened they were immediately restricted, not given hours and made to feel like they should`ent have a second job. I`ve never seen people treated so poorly that have tried to show what they have to offer the company. Teenage kids asking to transfer to other depts. but brushed off by dept. heads ( hire outside people instead of internal candidates. Communication`s are poor, worst I`ve seen in a company in 30+ years in the work force. The company will say your hours are based on sales and that everyone has to do better but the reality is that the management, supply chain, customer service and lack of respect for employees and customers all are problems that come from the top and filter down to the lowest senority employee. The company will only be as good as the people at the top who make the decisions.Lets face the facts, we bought into big box stores back in the 80`s, got rid of the mom and pop operations and now this is the result. Walmart, Costco, Mcdonalds,Home Depot are all the same. Employees are turned over like socks and treated like they have`nt a brain in there head. Management is rude, arrogant and uncaring based on their experience from their boss, so on up the ladder. I find my little local farmers market a more enjoyable place to shop than any RCSS. Mom and Pop operations treated people with dignity and probably paid employees better % wise based on their sales compared to RCSS and its sales. We are all the working poor and I can honestly say my best job in my life was the first one I ever had at 18 years old where I was askedto do a job and use my brain to achieve company goals and personal goals(made $9.00/hr when Iquit and 30+ years later, RCSS is not the answer for me or a myriad of people who walk through the door(hired by RCSS store at 9.00/hr). Worst Working Experience of my life ( 8 months in) mom and pop here I come.
I agree completely! Time to stop feeding the beast! I am trying to shop more and more at my farmer's market-it's not always that much cheaper anymore at Zehrs now that food has gone up so much. Time to break the habit. . .
