THIS IS A PLEA TO GALEN!!!!Please take a closer look at the employees and wonderful staff you have working for your company! As a department manager I feel broken and useless. I have the best staff in the world who would bend over backwards for me and the department. They have decades of experience. They are strong, knowledgable, dependable and work as hard and as fast as they can to make our department look good every single day. But it is NEVER, EVER good enough. District managers, and Specialists always want more product, better conditions, bigger displays, with less hours. One of my biggest challenges is trying to keep my staff from beating themselves up after some "higher up" comes in and critiques all of our/their hard work. Galen. These people are human beings. Occasionally we make mistakes. When we don't feel of value, or that we are worth having around...eventually we just throw up our hands in defeat. A small pat on the back really, honestly goes a long way.Imagine what our company could be like if each and every colleague felt appreciated and looked forward to coming to work each day! Imagine the productivity! I know how my staff rates me. I pass with flying colours on every review! How do you rate?
Hello?!? They don't care! They go through the motions twice a year with their Tell It As It Is survey. I encourage eveyone at my store to lay it out for them. They are asking what is wrong, so tell them! After the last survey results, when management and Loblaw itself was maligned, the solution was to give us a new toaster for the lunchroom! Oh, and by the way, I am a transgendering, visible minority, age 55-63, with 20 years seniority!
