As a teenager who has devoted thousands of hours for the company while going to school at the same time for the past 2 years, I have gained nothing with working for them. Thankfully, I will be gone from the company this coming September as I move on to make REAL money.

For those people who have stayed with the company for over 5 years, you must have a heck of lot of patience and you must be emotionally strong.

This company is horrible. The lack of organization astounds me! They are extremely strict on their safety for fear of losing money. They get employees of the company to join individual "safety committees" (per store) and these employees specifically get treated like garbage, after not realizing what they were getting themselves put into. They get them to yell and harass those who don't follow the safety rules. It feels like a daycare centre with one person running the centre. We're not children!

Secondly, the lack of communication within the company is ridiculous! The store I work at just recently went a change to a different store name, lower prices, etc. Now we don't have a meat cutter, instead our meat gets pre-cut and prepackaged at separate locations and it's sent to us already priced or we have to put the prices on each package. It sounds easier and more convenient for the meat man, but they've had to cut the hours in the meat department, because there's so much less to do.

Thirdly, getting product into the store is such a hassle! Employees spend hours upon hours sending emails to company officials trying to get them to make sure things are sent to the store on time, but they never arrive on time and instead we have a bunch of unsatisfied customers, because they are seeing advertised items that are priced EXTREMELY well, but we never have them in store! It's pretty much false advertisement!

Fourthly, this company does not pay its employees fairly at all! Customer service takes a special kind of person and they'd rather pay people who are good with people and willing to work, minimum wage. Let's not forget that working in a grocery store is demanding and stressful and minimum wage simply does not cut it. A lot of times, they have to hire people who are uneducated, simply aren't good with customers, and don't want to work... at least not for minimum wage. The top ones are always complaining that they can't find people to work for them... Wonder why?

Fifthly, where in the world does the employee stand within this company? The lack of raises in the company is ridiculous. It's impossible to get into a higher position within the company, unless you've worked for them for over 30 years. There are no benefits for part time employees and the benefits for full time employees are outran by the stress they have to put up with, because a lot of these employees have to deal specifically with customers, such as the front end (cashiers, etc.).

Wouldn't mind seeing this company on "Undercover Boss"...

Your efforts are not for naught. Your contribution has made Lobaws

shareholders and management rich. This is capitalism 101. Open up

your own grocery, if you think you're high and mighty, and smarter

than everyone else. Until such a time, just be quiet and pass the

coleslaw, and a French loaf of bread.

Rater 96 - very valid points.

I think whoever commented on 06.06.2010, is either working in the Weston tower, or related to them.

They are right - your contribution has made Loblaws shareholders [although I must dispute this - the shares were at $80 a few years ago - now crawling at $42}. I'm sure the management is still rich. Check out the latest Loblaws Annual Report.

I wonder, why is Comments 1 so defensive? Why is it so important your store managers do commodity checks in the neighbourhood on a weekly basis? We both know the answer. Maybe you should take that bread and coleslaw and contemplate.

Too bad you don't listen to Rater 96 ... your employees are your greatest asset.
