Only work for Loblaws MapleGrove facility if you come from a third world country where you are used to a totalitarian system. This job is like working in hell, only you get to go home after 8 hours. Immediately, you lose your weekends and with only 3 people allowed to book days off at any given time, unless you have some ridiculously high seniority, you might not be able to book a day off. So there goes your family and social life. You do get a decent benefits package and you do get paid holidays, but with the amount of stress and sheer mental and physical exhaustion you will experience, you'll find them useless. The workload increases as the wages remain fixed. With the contract coming soon to be expired, there is worry and lots of rumour that there will be a take it or leave it deal such that there will be lower wages and a heavier workload. God help you if you get hurt on the job as the policy is skewed so that it is your fault and you eventually get fired because of it. When I stated earlier that you should come from a third world background? I meant it! You really are working in a sweat shop but you are producing pallets of food, not toys or shirts.

To be successful at MapleGrove, you must also remember to leave your brain at home. Loblaws doesn't like employee suggestions or employees who know their rights or have courage to stand up to what is right. Management and HR love dosile employees. With Retention rates through the roof and an economic collapse in the K-W region, there are many fresh souls left for Loblaws to consume and many more $25 initiation fees for the union to collect. In fact, many shifts are now without a union steward as many of them have stepped down because of the lack and unwillingness to weild power a union should have.

WallyMart is problably the only company who is actually worse than Loblaws, but it's like choosing between a rock and a hard place. Please, if you are reading this, keep your stress level in check, don't work for Loblaws! Unless you are desperate or not playing with a full deck, stay away!

What is really funny is that Loblaws has just been rated to be one of Canada's top 100 employers. Just goes to show you what money can buy. For everything else, there's bullying and exploitation.
