I worked there for 1 year and always gave it my best effort. But it was by far the worst environment i have ever worked in. There is a very closed and small circle of connected "insiders" who make all decisions and then are very reluctant to share information (yes, not unique to RIM but I think perhaps a shade worse). 18 months at RIM, what is there to say? If you are lucky enough to be in a non-production building, good for you! You are some of the lucky ones. You have clean, modern workspace, and managers that aren't that bad at what they do.

There was a period of high turnover a few years ago but little of that was managements fault. Has been virtually no turnover for quite awhile. No management is perfect but it was mostly immature co-workers fighting each other but they are all purged out now and the future of RIM is great.

I've been with this company for nearly a year and so far it has been great. If you're the type of person who needs to be spoon fed, than stay away. If you like to be trusted and don't like your boss breathing down your neck all day, than this place is for you. The people are great and the management is even better. The workweek is a 37.5 hours, but if you're late or leave early, no problem.

I'm currently with RIM and I really enjoy this company. The work is really stressful but very exciting. Unfortunately I don't work from RIM. I would like to work there, I applied couple of times:-)

But I know 12 people there (in Waterloo and Toronto) and they are all happy. They work in different departments. From IT to Industrial Design, they are all happy with their job.

After having worked at RIM for 10 years I have seen a lot. Managers/Directors get promoted by kissing @ss. I have seen too many good people who work hard get nothing in return. Loyalty is nothing for this company and you don't get rewarded for it. At one time RIM was a great place to work but the grew to fast and after long days and weeks it is very hard to get recognition.
