It's a shame. A company that was once great now loses it's lustre. The ship has become cold and work for it's crew is double what it used to be due to hourly cutbacks. Many of the crew and their supervisors are jumping overboard. The ship feels as if it is more concerned with following Wal-Mart's wake rather than making it's own waves as a unique chain of stores.

I work in a Northern Alberta store for many years and have always taken pride in my work. As a supervisor (re Department Manager) I can say that this is the hardest, most demanding job I've held. My work week is in excess of 60 hours/wk and my salary is slightly less than a full-timer maxed out at 37hrs/wk.

Many people complain about the management; but what they don't see is the...

by far the worst company I have ever worked for brutal beyond belief. High stress, low pay, zero recognition, long hours, no one cares about you as a person.

Work you like a dog and then don't recognise anyone for effort ever.

Constant threats that you will be fired.

I could go on all day

I no longer work for RCSS. However, I worked for Loblaw comp. 10 years prior to switch over to Real Canadian Superstore. Our pay was lower, hours (part-time) were random and week to week you never could predict hours. Taking time off for family, wedding on a week-end etc. was like asking for a major favour. I hated being invited to a function because it meant I would have to explain my reason...

I would highly not recomend working for this company if you are looking for full time hours or any kind of advancement ever. Upper management for the most part are completely rude and talk down too the employees. I will say my department manager is great and my coworkers are wonderful. This is mostly for students or first time job rather than feed your wife and family kind of work. So keep that...

Real Canadian Superstore is a fairly good place to start working when you are entering the job force. Though the management in my section are currently fighting to get rid of someone making it a very stressful place to come and work. Before this it was a fairly good place to work, though there isn't much chance for advancement.

I have worked for the company for over 7 years now. Never had a problem with them until recently. In the new year, my (as well as all other part timers working more than 28 hours/week) hours were cut from 37 to a maximum of 28 hours/week. Considering this is my only source of income, that's a pretty big blow. It is obvious that the reason they did this is to reduce the average wages paid to their...

Two years in the Superstore deli, nearly always doing the work of two people, and still getting reamed for not getting everything done satisfactorily. Supervisors and managers are more concerned with following the rules and pinching pennies than with customer service. I'm always bending the rules to help customers, and God have mercy on me if I'm ever found out. Needless to say, new ideas and...

Been a Night Shift Grocery Clerk 2 years now, RCSS... Still holding on to the thoughts of Full time some day. ( Good Wage and Benefits for fulltime ) Have done some nasty jobs in my life, but this is by far the toughest job one could ever imagine on ones Body and Stress Level. Stocking shelves on a regular basis of 250 Boxes plus a night and then making it look like its full... Gratitude rarely...

this company has the worst managers, they should take a course in anger management!!!! before you have to work 10000 hours to get into the union you get treated badly, they promise hours then don't produce them.

This is by far the worst company I ever have or ever will work for. The management team is deceptive, cohesive and abusive. Additionally, the title of "assistant department manager" is in reality just a stockboy position. However with the title you are expected to supply the company with vast sums of labour that is unpaid. I highly suggest not applying at this company regardless of how...

This employer only wants the money and they do not care who they step on to get that money. They do not repect the very people that earn them their income. It is time for tihis company to realize that the workers are the back bone of this company and with out the workers they have nothing.

Working in a Northern Alberta Store it is hard to find personal willing to work. It is the same for most employers. Many people want the same type of money they can get working in the lumber or oil and act like they are doing the employer a favor, by working in the store and not elsewhere.

We also have a lot of people using the store as a transition job, because of the boom effect; these...

If you want to get paid right and on time you might want to work somewhere else. If you are human and not a robot and can't do two peoples jobs in ones persons hours then be prepared to get comments that make you feel like you are a failure. The management needs to work on their people skills and have reasonable expectations of their employees as well as make sure they get to have bathroom...

I enjoy the atmosphere of superstore, however, I truly believe that management could be better in understanding that people have work to do in their own departments and cannot be moved around when they can barly finish their own tasks as is. If being moved to a different location in the store is something I need to do then I should be paid for the two, sometimes three, departments I am working in...

One good thing about Superstore is that for only working ten hours a week you get dental, perscription, eye wear coverage and a death benefit which you don't have to pay for. Thats all thanks to the Union that represents the workers. Other than that working for this employer is dismal. I would think the three year olds in China working in sweatshops get treated better than us. Supervisors and...
