  • World Atlas is an interesting website. Unfortunately, those writing for it are often paid less than minimum wage for their freelance work, if based in North America. If you write for WA, expect to be asked to do comprehensive research and to write about 1000 words within one to two hours to be compensated at about $20 to $25 per hour. The catch however, is even this doesn't always happen. This is because you are paid on a sliding scale. The more you write, the more you are paid per article. In order to reach the top pay bracket, you need to complete 25 + articles in two weeks. Experience has shown that even if your writing is the featured article on the front page, and you complete all 25 articles days in advance of the due date, the management will not always choose to pay you the top amount. So far, this has happened about every other month, and it seems it is done to keep you under the top pay bracket at times. Remember, you are paid for articles published, not written, and what is published is up to the discretion of the editors, and management. Topics are not invented by the writers, but chosen from a list, or assigned. So far, only every other month has paid for all the writing submitted. Honestly, look elsewhere. It is not worth your time to write for World Atlas if you are based in Canada or the US. Perhaps if you are based in Africa, as some writers may be, then the difference in the currency value makes it worth it, as you are paid in USD. Otherwise, you end up working for less than minimum wage in developed countries. If you want to work full-time hours and be paid about $400 to $500 per week for your efforts, by all means go for it.
