Size of company: Large (More than 500 employees)

Industry: Telecommunications

  • So far so good. I work in what Telus would consider a "rural" area with fewer than 50 employees in an area that spans over 1,000km of highway.

    - You are paid based on your tenure with the company, not your skills or advancement. I have advanced into a higher responsibility position but am still the lowest paid tech in my city.
    - Some care reps give the company a bad name. As a tech, I show up on the job and the customer is already unhappy with the company.
    - Dealing with internal systems (based mostly off-shore) is a painful process.
    - Off-shore sales are brutal. They have flat-out lied to customers to make a sale and have gone to the point of harassing the customer with phone calls.

    - I love what I do.
    - My manager is great and knows the business.
    - The job is very flexible and we are not micromanaged.
    - Fair pay. You're not going to get rich but it's a comfortable living.
    - I believe in the quality of the company's products.
    - Telus is not afraid to spend money to improve quality.
    - Good work/life balance most of the time.
