LCBO / Liquor Control Board of Ontario

Size of company: Large (More than 500 employees)

Industry: Government and Public Administration

  • A few things:
    1. They make you buy their uniform from other clothing retail stores. If you bought the wrong color, you have to buy another shirt showing the right LCBO color, but then not every LCBO has the same color of their shirt.

    2. If you are short of money while doing cashier work, it comes out of "your" pocket. I'm surprised they penalize employees for making tiny mistakes at the cash register. However, if you are over in your till at the end of your shift, then LCBO gets to keep that money.

    3. They make you do their orientation in health and safety, company policies, store policies etc etc before they give you any shifts. You have to do all these online courses which take about 12 hours (again, 12 hours!) to finish. All on your own time! You are not paid a penny for that!
